
Porter received his B.A. from Howard University in 1971 and later was granted a Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law from Loyola University Law School in 1997.
His career has been centered on assisting individuals and companies gain access to high-quality, cost-effective Health & Wellness Benefit Programs.
Porter’s Health Benefit career began with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of IL and eventually led to his appointment as Benefits Manager for the City of Chicago under the administration of the late Mayor Harold Washington.
After serving as a Benefit Manager in the private sector, Porter has held National Account Executive roles for leading organizations in the Pharmacy Benefit Management Industry including CVS/Caremark and Express Scripts.
Most recently Porter has held National Account Executive roles for some of the largest networks of Chain and Independent pharmacy providers including Safeway, Inc. and American Associated Pharmacies.
During his career, Porter founded two health benefit organization: Midwest Benefits Administration and Myrick Medicare Solutions. Porter remains active as a licensed Broker/Agent with the nation’s top health insurance plans.
In the sometimes-arcane world of health benefit claims administration and financial transparency, Porter knows where health insurance plans conceal their funds. (Which is really YOUR money) Having as much experience as I’ve had, the insurance companies know I will hold them accountable to deliver cost-effective, high-quality care.
In the area of community service, Porter served as a member of the Board of Directors for Centers For New Horizons for more than 10 years, has been a mentor in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, has been a Board member of Chicago Prairie Tennis Club, coached Little League Baseball, and a Board Member of the 95Th Street Coalition.
Porter was also past president of the Howard University Alumni Club of Chicago and past Regional Chairperson for Howard University Alumni Region IV.
Porter is also a Lifetime Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and is currently active with Phoenix, AZ Alumni and Chicago Alumni Chapters.
Porter has been married to the lovely Sandra Myrick for more than 47 years and they have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
While being an active member of Christ Universal Temple, where the Rev. Dr. Derrick B. Wells is Senior Minister, Porter is currently a Licensed Teacher ordained by the Universal Foundation For Better Living and currently enrolled in the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary Master of Divinity program. Porter is also Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Christ Universal Temple
Porter is an avid tennis player and is a Certified Instructor with the United States Professional Tennis Registry. In 2021, Porter’s Lake Meadows Men’s 55 and over team won the Chicago District Tennis Association Men’s Senior Championship.
Regardless of whether it’s family, friends, community, city, nation, world, or universe: Porter knows that it is God’s will that every individual live a healthy, happy, and prosperous life!
